Investment minister calls on building Cypriot, Greek, Jordanian economic partnership

Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Minister of State for Investment Muhannad Shehadeh called on the Jordanian, Cypriot and Greek business communities to build economic partnerships that promote trade exchange and joint ventures.

Speaking at the Jordanian-Cypriot-Greek Business Forum, organized by the Jordanian Chamber of Commerce, on the sidelines of a summit between His Majesty King Abdullah II, Cypriot President Nicos Anastasiades and Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras, said the relations between the three countries are "historic and distinguished" in various political, economic or educational fields.

Jordan has expertise and human resources to benefit from, in addition to the promising sectors such as the ICT, which achieved growth rates of 15%, and deemed a key player for the future of youth, Shehadeh pointed out.

The minister noted export is a key to the growth of the national economy and not only to goods, but also services, adding Jordan has succeeded in being a hub of services in technology and innovation.

On Jordan's potentials, he said the Kingdom can be a gateway to enter the region's markets and contribute to reconstruction projects in Syria and Iraq in the presence of youth experiences that can be used in providing services to international companies, adding the development zone near the land border with these two countries gives incentives and benefits to investors.

He cited a report issued recently by the World Economic Forum showing that among the top 100 emerging companies in the Arab countries, 27 were Jordanian, noting the youth's potentials exist and can provide technical support services to international companies.

The investment minister said that Jordan was the first country to enact a clear law in renewable energy with an investments volume of JOD 1.5 billion, pointing out that there are opportunities in the renewable energy sector.

Tourism has grown 15 percent and that there is potential to offer a Jordanian-Cypriote-Greek product to lure in tourists, especially from China, Japan and the U.S.

Shehadeh emphasized that there is a golden opportunity for the three countries to develop the trade exchange, expressing his hope that this forum will contribute to cementing coordination among businessmen in the field investment and setting up joint projects that would yield benefit for all concerned parties.
