Cold weather continues till Tuesday, polar depression forecast Wednesday

Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Cold weather is expected to prevail Monday in many parts of the Kingdom with clouds at various altitudes and a chance for scattered rain in the northern, central and northeastern areas, according to the Jordan Metrological Department (JMD).

Heavy rain is also predicted in the early morning hours in the northern regions that will be accompanied by hail, while winds will be southwesterly moderate to brisk, the JMD said.

Mercury levels will rise few degrees on Tuesday with cloudy skies and a chance for rain in the northern cities, while winds will remain southwesterly moderate to brisk, blowing dust in the desert areas, the JMD added.

On Wednesday, the Kingdom will be affected by a chilly air mass accompanied by a polar depression centered over eastern Cyprus, pushing temperatures down and creating very cold and cloudy weather. Heavy rain accompanied by hail is forecast at times that might cause floods in valleys and low lands.

Snow fall is also forecast Wednesday night over the mountainous areas, as winds will be westerly brisk with speed reaching 50-70 kilometers per hour and strong gust exceeding 70 Km/h blowing dust in the desert areas, the department noted.

Daytime temperatures expected for today in Amman and the southern governorates will reach 11 degrees Celsius and12 in the northern areas, dropping down to 4, 1 and 5 degrees respectively. The weather will be warmer in the port city of Aqaba with highs reaching 22 degrees Celsius and lows standing at 14 at night, the JMD added.
