Government to withdraw Cybercrime Law

Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Minister of State for Media Affairs and Government Spokesperson, Jumana Ghneimat, said the government will withdraw the Cybercrime Law, referred by the previous government to the Lower House of Parliament, at the request of the House Speaker, Atef Tarawneh.

The decision comes in response to demands of the representatives of various sectors, professional unions, party and civil society organizations, expressed their meeting with Prime Minister Omar Razaz.

The minister announced the government will revise the cybercrime bill to present a new version in light of the penal legislation in force.

Ghneimat said the legal treatment of incitement to hate and incitement will be reviewed, as well as spreading rumors and false news.

Ghneimat noted the government will revisit the bill in consultation with the concerned authorities and a number of experts and specialists and then refer it to the Lower House of Parliament.
