Jordan is key partner of Spain, envoy

Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Spanish ambassador to Joran Aranzazu Banon Davalos said that Jordan is a key partner of Spain in the Middle East, noting that relations between the two countries are progressively developing.

During a a reception on Sunday on the occasion of Spain's National Day, the ambassador said the friendship between the two royal families, mutual trust, common understanding and the identical views on various regional and international issues, laid the foundations of solid relations between Jordan and Spain.

She stressed that there will be no lasting peace or stability in the region without finding a just solution to the Palestinian issue, indicating that the two-state solution is the only way to achieve peace between Palestinians and Israelis.

The ambassador expressed her concern about the financial crisis facing the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) and its impact on its role and its ability to provide the necessary services to more than 5 million Palestinian refugees, pointing out that Spain will increase its annual contribution to the agency stemming from its position towards the Palestinian cause.

She also affirmed the importance of focusing on strengthening the national capacities of Jordan in the face of the burdens resulting from hosting more than one million Syrian refugees.

Ambassador Davalos pointed to the inclusion of Jordan in the 2018-2022 Spanish Master Plan for Development Cooperation, which will increase cooperation between the two countries and support projects in Jordan in many sectors.

She also praised the determination of the Jordanian government to pursue the necessary political and economic reforms.

"We encourage Spanish companies to invest in Jordan, build partnerships with the private sector, jobs and achieve economic growth," she said, pointing to the presence of Spanish companies in Jordan working in renewable energy, infrastructure and services projects.

"We, as close friends of Jordan, want Jordan to remain stable and prosperous and an example of tolerance, moderation, peaceful coexistence, and success in the Middle East," she said.
