Cabinet approves water efficiency plan, Canadian grant, UN, UNESCO agreements

Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - The Cabinet, on Sunday, gave the Ministry of Water and Irrigation the go-ahead for the implementation of a comprehensive plan to rehabilitate and increase the efficiency of water utilities for a number of major institutions in the Kingdom, in addition to conducting a water metering to determine consumption and possible rationalization.

The plan, carried out by the ministry in cooperation with the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ), is part of the ministry's scheme to preserve and protect water resources, rationalize consumption and reduce losses.

In the cabinet meeting, chaired by Prime Minister, Hani Mulki, the government also approved a grant agreement with Canada, under which the Canadian Government will provide 75 million Canadian dollars (about $40 million) over the next five years (2018-2022) as direct support to the education sector.

On the other hand, the government approved an agreement between Jordan and the United Nations on binding participations with the UN peacekeeping force on the level of the rapid deployment.

The agreement aims at promoting cooperation between Jordan and the United Nations in the areas of peacekeeping, operational readiness and participation in peacekeeping operations within agreed frameworks for all participating forces of all peacekeeping missions.

Also, the cabinet approved proposals submitted by the World Heritage Mission of UNESCO for the protection of Petra and preserve its value as one of the seven wonders of the world and its advanced position on the world tourism map.
