Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Thousands of students in several Jordanian universities held protests condemning U.S. President Donald Trump's decision to recognize Jerusalem as Israel's capital.

In a sit-in at the University of Jordan, students voiced their condemnation of the decision and said it is a violation of all international laws and only serves extremists and fuels violence.

Similar protests were held in public and private universities in Irbid, Karak and Zarqa universities.
"We will not accept the U.S. decision which is provocative. Jerusalem is not for the U.S. to grant to the Zionist entity," several banners carried by the students during the protests indicated.

They called on the international community to honor its pledges and resolutions that state that the issue of Jerusalem is to be decided via negotiated settlement.

Several political parties, including the Islamic movement in Jordan, announced plans for protests across Jordanian cities after Fridays' prayers.

The Jordanian government rejected the U.S. decision and said it will continue efforts to find a solution.

On Wednesday, Trump announced that the U.S. formally recognized Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and that he intends to move the U.S. embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, which experts warned that it would unleash upheaval and chaos in the Middle East.
