Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Director of the International Monetary Fund's (IMF) Middle East and Central Asia Department, Jihad Azour, said the fiscal reforms being carried out by the Jordanian government are part of the programmes it had drawn up years ago to achieve a set of goals, top of which is financial and economic stability.

Azour told Petra that the IMF-backed programmes are partially intended to achieve tax reform in order to be more progressive, and to expand participation that will ease the burdens on the most vulnerable segments of the society, and in a way that particular sectors will not be affected by the economic reform process.

He referred to a series of recent meetings he had with Jordanian officials, adding that the IMF is currently holding further meetings on the progress of reforms, including fiscal reform as well as preparation of the 2018 budget.
