International reactions to severing diplomatic ties with Qatar

Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - There were several international reactions towards the decision of number of the Arabic and Islamic countries to sever relations with Qatar, taken on Monday, as per charges for Doha for supporting terrorists groups.

Saudi Arabia, Egypt, the UAE and Bahrain cut relations with Qatar on Monday, and the Yemeni government, the eastern government of Libya and the Republic of Maldives joined them.

In the first Russian response to the decision, the Kremlin said it is Russia’s interest that the situation in the Gulf be “stable and peaceful.”

Dmitry Peskov, a Kremlin spokesman, said in a phone conference, that Moscow also hoped that the current diplomatic dispute in the Gulf affect the “common intention” to fight the “international terrorism.”

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that “the decision of the Arab countries to cut off their relations with Qatar is their own call, we call everyone one to have a discussion.”

US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson told reporters in Sydney, on Monday, that this decision would not affect the fight against terrorists and that Washington had urged its Gulf allies to resolve their differences.

Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu said that, he is sorry for the dispute between Qatar and other Arab countries and called for discussion to resolve the dispute.

“We consider that the stability of the Gulf region to be part of our unity and solidarity, certainly issues happen between countries, but discussion must continue under any circumstances to resolve problems peacefully. We are saddened by the current situation and we are willing to provide any support to go back to the normal situation,” he added in a press conference.

India’s foreign affairs minister Sushma Swaraj said that her country would not be affected that some Gulf countries severing diplomatic ties with Qatar.

“There is no challenge for us in this procedure, this is an internal matter for the Gulf Cooperation Council [GCC] countries ... We are only concerned with the Indians’ affairs there, we are trying to find out if any Indian is stuck there.” She said to the reporters.

“Pakistan has no intention of severing diplomatic relations with Qatar,” the Pakistani foreign ministry spokesman said.
