PM meets heads of delegations participating in WEF

Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Prime Minister Hani al-Mulki, on Saturday, held talks with heads of delegations attending the World Economic Forum (WEF) on the Middle East and North Africa at the Dead Sea.

The prime minister met with his Egyptian counterpart, Sherif Ismail, and discussed with him ways to boost bilateral relations in various domains.

They stressed the importance of enhancing joint cooperation, pointing out that the Jordan-Egypt Higher Committee meeting, which was agreed to be held in mid-July in Amman, constitutes an additional building block in the course of relations between the two countries.

The talks dealt with the conditions of Egyptian labor in Jordan as the two premiers stressed the importance of correcting labor status, preserving laborers rights and regulating the labor market within the framework of fraternal relations between the two countries.

In another meeting, Al-Mulki welcomed Georgian Prime Minister, Giorgi Kvirikashvili, for a discussion on relations between the two countries and ways of enhancing them in various fields, especially economic and investment spheres.

Al-Mulki said trade exchange between the two countries remains below aspirations despite the available opportunities and possibilities for mutual cooperation and investments.

The Georgian prime minister hailed Jordan's important role as a factor of security and stability in the region. He indicated that the two countries can benefit from the free trade agreements that link them with many countries and blocs to increase the volume of trade exchange.

Al-Mulki oversaw the signing of a cooperation agreement in the field of tourism between Jordan and Georgia.

Under the agreement, both countries and their national tourism agencies will work to promote tourism and direct flights to increase the flow of tourists between the two countries.

The prime minister also met with the King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Economic City (KAEC), Managing Director, Fahd Al-Rasheed. During the meeting, they reviewed the economic cooperation, advantages and competitive opportunities offered by the Jordanian economy to investors.

The prime minister spoke about a number of projects Jordan intends to implement in the field of urban planning and the strengthening of logistics services in the southern port of Aqaba.

The premier also met with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) Vice President, Alain Pilloux.

Al-Mulki reviewed areas of political and economic reform implemented by Jordan, pointing out that the administrative reform is a priority at this stage, in which Jordan is looking forward to the EBRD's support.

The prime minister also said that Jordan is looking forward to the EBRD's support in the field of vocational and technical training programs that contribute to rehabilitating young people.

Al-Mulki welcomed the EDRD plans to hold its Board of Governors meetings in Jordan next year with the participation of 70 countries and about 2,000 participants.

The EBRD Vice President said the bank is ready to support Jordan in its development projects.

The prime minister also met with Cisco's Managing Director of West Region, Ziad Salameh, and a number of the company's officials.

He said electronic communication in the government work has become an urgent need, in terms of providing services to citizens and attracting investments.

He noted that the government is committed to implementing the directives of His Majesty King Abdullah II that government services should be digitalized and be paperless within five years.

Cisco's official said his company is proud of its strategic partnership with Jordan, stressing that Jordan was a pioneer in the digital transformation.

Salameh pointed out that his company's academies in Jordan have graduated 17,000 specialists in the field of information technology, 45 percent of whom are females, which is the highest percentage in the world.

The prime minister met with CEO of Meridiam, a global infrastructure company, Thierry Deau.

He said there are many investment opportunities in projects that the government intends to implement in various sectors and are open to domestic and foreign investors.

Deau said his company runs many projects around the world and is considering investing in Jordan for several factors, including an attractive environment for investment, security and stability.
