Jordan ranks 2nd regionally, and 35th internationally in combating money laundering

Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Jordan was ranked 35th internationally on the Basel Anti-Money Laundering (AML) Index, according to Secretary General of the Ministry of Political and Parliamentary Affairs Bakir Abbadi.

He added that Jordan and Egypt also ranked second on the index after Tunisia, while Qatar came in the third place.

In remarks at the opening of a course on combating money laundering and terrorist financing through international sanctions, that was organized by Harvard for Training and Consulting, Abbadi said that the index measures the risk of money laundering and terrorist financing of countries.

Every year, Jordan shows a clear progress with regard to implementing transparency and the rule of law," he added.

Director of Public Relations at Harvard for Training and Consulting Reem Azza said the course aims to acquaint participants with the impact of money laundering and terrorist financing and means to address them.

The Basel Institute on Governance is an independent not-for-profit competence centre specialised in corruption prevention and public governance, corporate governance and compliance, anti-money laundering, criminal law enforcement and the recovery of stolen assets.
