Gov't, USAID launch tourism training program

Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - The Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) and the Vocational Training Corporation (VTC), on Monday launched the "Pathways to Professionalism" program, as the first program to be implemented by the hospitality sector in order to improve the skills of workforce in Jordan.

The program, which will be applied by 21 hotels, seeks to raise the quality standards in the hotels' sector jobs through training participants while practicing their work.

Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, Lina Annab said this program aims at meeting the hotels sector's needs and at the same time providing workers the opportunity to progress in their careers.

She added that investing in human resources and skills is very important for developing the tourism sector, noting that the sector employs 200,000 people.

USAID Director, Jim Barnhart, this program is more than just a hotel training, as it is able to develop ways to acquire skills for the staff of hospitality and methods of recruitment in the Kingdom's hotels.
