Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - The government and its relevant agencies will not tolerate incitement of sedition and hate speech via traditional media or social networks, State Minister for Media Affairs Mohammad Momani said, vowing that legal action will be taken against the perpetrators.

Momani, who is also the government's official spokesman, said the scourge of terrorism and a surge in the speech to promote sedition, hate and takfir (accusation of apostasy) necessitated finding the proper means to stop violence and extremism and prevent hate speech.

In an address, delivered on his behalf by Jordan News Agency Petra director general, Faisal Shboul, at the opening of a conference on media's role in the fight against terrorism and extremism, he said the media had the increasing responsibility to promote security and stability across the region and the world.

He said the challenge doubles as terrorist groups resort to modern media outlets and social networks to "spew their venomous takfiri ideology and recruit radicals", stressing the collective responsibility of fighting terrorist ideology with the same means, as a more serious challenge.

The minister spoke of the dire need for further coordination and cooperation to step up efforts and exchange expertise in "what should be done in the next stage to combat the forces of evil and extremism".

The two-day conference, organised by the Arab Commission for Satellite Broadcasting and the Arab League, drew Arab media experts, scholars and other stakeholders in the fight against terrorism and hate speech.
