Gov’t, EU sign work plan to support civil society

Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - The government has signed an annual action plan with the EU to support civil societies, Planning and International Cooperation Minister Imad Fakhoury said on Sunday.

Fakhoury said in a ministry statement that the action plan is part of a 10-million-euro programme signed with the EU to support civil societies and the media to advance the development of the democratic process through increasing public participation in political life and establishing more transparent and effective media and civil society organisations.

The programme includes a 4.5-million-euro project to support civil society, to be supervised by the National Centre for Human Rights.

The project will focus on improving the professional environment in civil society organisations, particularly in remote areas, raising awareness of human rights and supporting youth participation in national dialogue.

The programme also includes a 5.5-million-euro project to support the media, which will be supervised by UNESCO, the ministry said.
