WFP needs $33.4m for Syrian refugees in Jordan

Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - The World Food Programme (WFP) launched an appeal to provide $33.4 million to meet the food requirements of the Syrian refugees in Jordan for the period March to May of this year.

Spokeswoman for WFP in Amman, Shatha Maghrebi told Petra that the number of Syrian refugees in Jordan registered at the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) reached about 623,000 with 86 percent of them living in the cities.

She said that the Programme supports 530,000 Syrian refugees with food aid with plans to reach approximately 600,000 refugees by the end of 2015.

She added that the WFP provides food assistance to refugees through an e-voucher program which ensures that refugees receive their food.
