Lower House speaker, Hungarian counterpart discuss ties, region

Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Speaker of the Lower House of Parliament Atef Tarawneh held talks in Budapest with his Hungarian counterpart, Laszlo Kover, regarding bilateral ties and further boosting them in various fields.

Discussions also covered the current situation in the Middle East, including the Syrian crisis, developments in Iraq and Palestine, as well as their repercussions on Jordan.

Tarawneh spoke about reforms made by Jordan, mainly legislation regulating political, social and economic life, including constitutional amendments, as well as laws related to political parties, the Constitutional Court, the Independent Elections Commission, social security and press and publications.

The speaker reiterated Jordan's stance on the Palestinian issue, which calls for an end to the Israeli occupation and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state in accordance with the two-state solution, the Arab Peace Initiative and international legitimacy resolutions.

He also reviewed the repercussions of the Syrian crisis on Jordan, pointing to Jordan's stance, which calls for a political solution to the crisis.

The two officials also agreed to support parliamentary friendship committees and coordinate stances of the two countries' parliaments in the service of both countries.

They further agreed on the need to develop agreements between the two countries and increase scholarships offered to students from both countries.

The Speaker of the Hungarian parliament praised reforms made by Jordan and voiced his country's support for Jordan's call for a solution to the Palestinian issue based on the two-state solution.

Trawneh also met with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban and briefed him on reforms being implemented by Jordan in various domains.

He also spoke about the burden shouldered by the Kingdom as a result of absorbing huge waves of refugees over the last six decades.

The Hungarian prime minister praised Jordan's positions, under the leadership of His Majesty King Abdullah II, towards the regions' issues, particularly efforts to bring about security and stability in the region and support a solution to the Palestinian issue.

He also stressed the importance of enhancing bilateral ties, particularly in the cultural and parliamentary fields.
