42 percent of Jordanians say country on right track, poll

Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Forty-two percent of the Jordanians are optimistic that matters in the country are going in the right direction one year after the formation of the government of Prime Minister Abdullah Ensour, according to a poll conducted by the University of Jordan's Centre for Strategic Studies.

Director of the Center Musa Shtewi and Head of the Survey Team Walid Khatib said at a press conference on Monday that the number of those who believe that things are going in the right direction, as brought out by the national sample and opinion leaders, rose by 13 points to reach 42 percent, compared to a poll conducted in October 2013.

About 53 percent of the people surveyed in the national sample said matters are going in the wrong direction, compared to 64 percent in the October 2013 poll and the April 2013 poll .

The economic situation, the soaring prices and the increasing cost of living were the reasons behind the respondents' belief that matters were going in the wrong direction.

About 49 percent people in the national sample said the government was able to carry out its responsibilities while 50 percent said the prime minister was able to carry out his responsibilities. Forty-four percent also said the ministerial team was able to carry out its responsibilities.

On the economic situation, 18 percent of the national sample said the economic situation in Jordan is better than what it was 12 months ago, a rise of 50 points compared to a poll conducted in June 2013.

The survey, which polled a randomly selected sample of 1,800 Jordanians over the age of 18, is a representation of age, gender, and geographic location.

The poll was aimed at highlighting the opinion of Jordanians and their confidence in the second government of Abdullah Ensour in carrying out its responsibilities one year after its formation.
