AMMONNEWS – The Cultural Affairs Section of the American Embassy will host Arab-American country music singer and songwriter Kareem Salama for several performances and master classes from May 24 – 27, 2010. Sponsored by the U.S. government, Kareem Salama and his band are currently on a Middle East music tour that includes Egypt, Morocco, Kuwait, Bahrain, Syria, Jerusalem and Jordan.

Kareem Salama’s musical program in Jordan will include a free public performance in Irbid on Monday, May 24, and a free outdoor concert at King Hussein Park on Wednesday, May 26. Accompanying Mr. Salama are the accomplished musicians JJ Worthen and Michael Whitebread. Jordanian singer Yazan Rousan and his band Autostrad will make a special appearance during Kareem Salama’s concert at King Hussein Park.

Raised in Oklahoma after his Egyptian parents moved to the United States, Kareem Salama writes songs intertwined with his Muslim faith, as evident in his first album, “Generous Peace,” released in 2006, and his second album, “This Life of Mine,” released in 2007. Many of Salama’s songs celebrate the diversity and vitality of the American Muslim community and promote peace, tolerance and understanding.

Kareem Salama and his band will also take part in a live jam session with several Jordanian musicians, and conduct a master class at the Queen Zein Al Sharaf Institute for Development (ZENID). Before his departure, Kareem will discuss his experience as an Arab-American Muslim country music singer with local high school and university students.
