Israel to consider banning Islamic call to prayer

Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Israeli news agencies reported that a bill to "silence" the Islamic call to prayer is being promoted in the Knesset.

Freshmen MK Aryeh Bibi of the Kadima Party raised the issue against the morning Azaan (call to prayer) in a Knesset speech, explaining that muezzin's "pre-dawn, loud mournful calls to prayer.. wreaks havoc in Jerusalem," by awakening people in the middle of the night "for no apparent reason," reported Israel National News.

On this issue, Baruch Marzel of Hebron had told Arutz-7 that his method of dealing with the "problem" was to rent loudspeakers to play "quality [Jewish] music" right back at the local mosques which broadcast the call to prayer through "Saudi-purchased high-quality loudspeakers."

MK Bibi said that he had received numerous complaints about the morning call to prayer, expressing that if Muslims wanted to her the call to prayer, they should figure out a way that doesn't disturb others.

Bibi had told Arutz-7's Hebrew newsmagazine that Muslims should adopt a 'silent radio station' to tune into at home, such as the model followed in Turkey, adding that he is in the process of formulating the bill this week to be considered in the Knesset.
