Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - His Majesty King Abdullah II stressed the importance of intensifying regional and international efforts to put an end to the Israeli aggression against Gaza, ensure the delivery of humanitarian, relief and medical aid to the Palestinians and start the reconstruction process in the coastal enclave.

At a meeting with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas at the Al Husseiniya Palace on Wednesday, the King urged the international community to shoulder its responsibilities towards the Palestinian people, particularly in the light of the Israeli offensive and the devastation it caused to the infrastructure and services sector in Gaza.

In this context, His Majesty stressed that Jordan would continue to provide the necessary relief and medical aid to the Palestinians in the light of the difficult humanitarian conditions they face to alleviate their suffering.

Jordan, the King said, is keen to maintain coordination and consultations with President Abbas and with all concerned parties to ease the suffering of the Palestinian people and enable them to face the continued Israeli violations that contradict all international norms and human rights.

His Majesty called for intensifying international efforts to ensure the resumption of negotiations between the Palestinians and the Israelis that address all final status issues, achieve the aspirations of the Palestinians in ending the Israeli occupation and setting up their independent state on the Palestinian national soil in accordance with the two-state solution, the Arab Peace Initiative and international legitimacy resolutions.

King Abdullah warned of the continued Israeli unilateral actions in the Palestinian territories, mainly against the Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem, on top of which are the continued violations against the Al Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem.

The Palestinian president briefed His Majesty on the ceasefire talks hosted by Egypt and voiced appreciation for Jordan's efforts under the King's leadership to put an end to the Israeli aggression.

The meeting was attended by HRH Prince Ghazi Bin Mohammad, the King's advisor for religious and cultural affairs, the Royal Court chief, the director of the King's Office, the director of the Intelligence Department, the chief Palestinian negotiator and the Palestinian ambassador in Amman.
