Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - His Majesty King Abdullah II stressed Jordan’s full support to the Palestinians in facing the Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip that targets civilians.

At a meeting with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas here on Thursday in the presence of His Royal Highness Crown Prince al-Hussein, the King said Jordan will continue its contacts and efforts with the Palestinian National Authority and all concerned parties to put an end to the Israeli offensive in the coastal enclave.

The Israeli aggression, the King said, violates all international norms and will have catastrophic repercussions on the security and stability in the region.

His Majesty pointed to Jordan’s efforts through its membership in the UN Security Council to adopt a resolution that calls for an immediate ceasefire and the withdrawal of the Israeli occupation forces from the blockaded enclave.

He also stressed the need to support the Egyptian initiative on the current situation in Gaza.

King Abdullah said that what is happening in Gaza requires renewing momentum to the peace process and resuming negotiations that address all final status issues.

He warned of the continued unilateral Israeli policies and measures in the occupied Palestinian lands, mainly in Jerusalem, where violations are still being committed against Al Aqsa Mosque.

The Palestinian president reviewed the Palestinian stance on the current developments in the region and briefed the King about his meetings with leaders in the region to put an end to the Israeli offensive.

Abbas praised efforts exerted by Jordan under the King’s leadership to achieve a ceasefire, provide medical and humanitarian aid to the Palestinians in Gaza as well as medical care to the injured Palestinians at Jordanian hospitals.

The meeting was attended by Royal Court Chief Fayez Tarawneh, Foreign Minister Nasser Judeh, Director of the Intelligence Department General Faisal Al Shoubaki and Chief Palestinian Negotiator Saeb Erekat.
