Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - NASA has released a stunning image of a lightning strike over Saudi Arabia and Kuwait, as seen by astronauts aboard the International Space Station.

The image offers an incredible view of the white-flash of the electric storm, with city lights visible amid heavy cloud elsewhere in the Arabian peninsula.

Researchers are now using instruments aboard the space station to find out more about lightning and its effects, the Daily Mail reported.

Installed in August 2013, the ‘Firestation’ instruments measure lightning flashes, static discharges and gamma rays.

In a few years, NASA scientists plan to add another lightning sensor to the ISS, the Daily Mail reported.

While the NASA picture was taken on Dec. 12, 2013, residents of the Gulf experienced more bad weather overnight and on Wednesday morning.

Heavy rain hit the UAE, causing flooding and traffic problems in the cities of Dubai and Abu Dhabi, local media reported.
