Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Chinese Customs officers seized more than 3,000 grams of heroin from two inbound Middle Eastern men , one of them holds Jordanian nationality, at Shenzhen International Airport on Sunday, Shenzhen daily reported on Thursday.

A total of 3,053 grams of heroin, worth an estimated 2.25 million yuan (US$367,000), were found in the luggage of a young Jordanian man, who was not identified by the administration. The heroin was wrapped in tin foil and layers of black plastic.

The other young man, an unidentified Palestinian, had stored capsules containing drugs in his bowels. Similar capsules containing drugs also were found in the bowels of the Jordanian man.

The two had discharged 60 capsules from their bowels by yesterday evening, customs officers said.

“There are still drug capsules inside their bodies. It will take time for them to discharge the rest of them,” airport customs officer Tang Chang said. “The two young men were both paid by overseas drug smugglers to transport the drugs to Guangzhou through Shenzhen.”

The Palestinian became furious and tried to refuse when customs officers required him to go through an X-ray scanning machine. After officers explained related laws to him, he went though the scanner and the drug capsules were revealed.

The two took the same flight from a Southeast Asian country to Shenzhen. An investigation is continuing.

According to China’s penal code, people convicted of trafficking more than 50 grams of heroin can face the death sentence.

Airport customs officers have uncovered seven drug smuggling attempts by foreigners this year, officer Hu Lingying said.

“Most of these foreign smugglers, who are mainly from Malaysia, Palestine and South Africa, were paid to transport drugs into and out of Shenzhen,” Hu said.

Hu said Shenzhen Customs’ biggest seizure at the airport this year was 44.9 kilograms of drugs found in the luggage of two outbound Malaysians.
