AMMONNEWS - a young activist who was arrested and detained last week in Hashemiyya Prison over writing an article criticizing the regime went into a hunger strike 3 days ago in protest of being held in solitary confinement in prison.
The Family of 18-year old pro-reform activist Ala'a Dhib told Ammon News that their son went into a hunger strike in protest of harsh treatment in Al Hashmyah prison where he was placed in solitary confinement.
Dhib's family claimed that he is in a bad health condition as result of hunger strike.
The family stressed that their son is being detained over an article he wrote and published in a news website "had targeted the Syrian regime and not the Jordanian one," as the security reports presented to the State Security Court revealed.
They demanded authorities release their son, noting that the charges against him are unwarranted.
A security source commented on Dhib's case, citing that he has been detained since September 18, "and since then he has been acting in a manner to attract attention and instigate chaos," adding that Dhib and other activists requested to put Dhib and the Tafileh movement detainees in a separate prison cell "because they are political prisoners."
"There is nothing called political prisoners that warrants separating them, the charges against the young men fall under crimes committed against state security," the source added.
Dhib was put in solitary confinement because of his behavior, but had apologized and signed a promise not to repeat his behavior.
The security source added that Dhib announced on September 23 going on a hunger strike, and when he met the deputy director of the Hashemiyya prison, east of Amman, he requested to be put in a separate cell with the Tafileh detainees.
