Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - The holy month of Ramadan begins Friday in Jordan, Chief Islamic Justice Ahmad Hilayel announced Thursday.
“Friday will be the first day of the holy month of Ramadan,” Hilayel said at a routine ceremony held by the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs at the headquarters of the Chief Islamic Justice Department in the presence of religious scholars, astronomers, academicians and officials.
“The crescent was not spotted in Jordan. But it was spotted in Saudi Arabia, which makes Friday the first day of Ramadan,” he said Thursday.
According to the Chief Islamic Justice Department, several locations were designated across the Kingdom to observe the hilal, but it was not spotted in any of these places.
“Ramadan will begin Friday in Jordan in unity with the Muslim countries. If the crescent is spotted in one Muslim country, then other countries can mark Ramadan at the same time even if they do not see crescent out of unity between the Muslims,” Hilayel said.
The chief Islamic justice called on the rich and traders to support the poor and do charitable work.
