Parliament Requests Constitutional Opinion on “Casino Deal”

AMMONNEWS - The Lower House of Parliament on Sunday requested a constitutional opinion from the Higher Council for the Interpretation of the Constitution on the legality of the Parliamentary session of Prosecutors request to try former premier Marouf Bakhit and seven of his former Cabinet members, in the “Casino Deal“ scandal.

Under heavy audience sitting in the upper decks of the Parliamentary hall, 50/86 lawmakers voted in favor of studying the request.

The Higher Council for the Interpretation of the Constitution includes the appointed Chief of Upper House of Senators, 3 Senators, and 5 Supreme Court Judges.

The re-vote will only be approved if a re-vote session is found constitutionally legal by the Higher Council for the Interpretation of the Constitution.

previously the prosecutor submitted a request to the Lower House seeking approval to try the officials last month, but, no response has been received yet.
