AMMONNEWS - The political detainees who were arrested last Saturday, and the 6 others who were detained last month will be freed on Thursday, the State Minister of Media Affairs and Communications Rakan Majali said Wednesday during a meeting with Journalist in the Lower House of Parliament.
The thirteen detained activists who were arrested last Saturday are facing charges of subverting the system of the kingdom, inciting the public, and illegal gathering.
"subverting the system of the kingdom”, is a crime that article 149 of Jordan’s penal code punishes with hard labor.
On Saturday, around 200 members of various youth movements demonstrated near the prime minister's office in Amman to demand the release of six activists who were jailed last month for insulting the king.
Police had arrested 30 of those who took part in the protest, 17 of whom have subsequently been released.
The Military judge extend the detention of the activists for 15 days pending the investigations.
