04-04-2012 12:00 AM

Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - The thirteen detained activists who were arrested last Saturday are facing charges of subverting the system of the kingdom, inciting the public, and illegal gathering, a military judge said on Sunday.

"subverting the system of the kingdom”, is a crime that article 149 of Jordan’s penal code punishes with hard labor.

On Saturday, around 200 members of various youth movements demonstrated near the prime minister's office in Amman to demand the release of six activists who were jailed last month for insulting the king.

Police had arrested 30 of those who took part in the protest, 17 of whom have subsequently been released.

The Military judge extend the detention of the activists for 15 days pending the investigations.
