Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - A court in Amman rejected on Wednesday another bail petition filed by the defence team of ex-mayor of Amman, Omar Maani, who is charged with “failure to perform his official duties”, one of his lawyers said.
Maani, who served as mayor between 2006-2011, was indicted the day before by Deputy Attorney General Judge Rami Salah on the backof a probe into several files related to the Greater Amman Municipality (GAM).
The ex-mayor of Amman, Omar Maani, was apprehended on Tuesday as a public prosecutor decided to detain him for 15 days pending investigation into charges of abuse of public office.
Judges later on Tuesday considered releasing the ex-chief of Greater Amman Municipality (GAM) on bail after public prosecutor Rami Salah ordered his detention for 15-days at Al Juwaideh Correctional and Rehabilitation Center, judicial sources told Ammon News.
The sources added that the request for release on bail, submitted by Maani's lawyers, requires the approval of two judges.
