Protest at Parliament against Landlords and Tenants Law

Ammon News - AMMONNEWS – Dozens of real estate owners and tenants protested in front of the Parliament building on Sunday morning ahead of a Lower House's session scheduled to discuss amendments to the Landlords and Tenants Law.

The protestors criticized the law, and called for canceling the time periods for vacating properties determined in the new draft law.

Article 5 of the law stipulates that tenants should vacate rented properties between 2011 and 2015, depending on the date of their original lease, but added that those who signed a rent contract before 1970 should sign new contracts with landlords or vacate their rentals by December 31, 2010.

Last week, the House Legal Committee endorsed the draft, scrapping Article 5.
