Ammon News - AMMONNEWS – Jordan will work on releasing all political prisoners, including hard-line Salafis, in the nearest possible time, Minister of State for Media Affairs and Communications said on Tuesday.
Rakan Majali, who is also the government spokesperson, told Ammon News over the phone on Tuesday that the name of Eyad Qunaibi, a Jordanian pharmacist detained for over a year without trial, has been included in a list of detainees to be considered for release by the Prime Ministry on Tuesday afternoon.
"You will witness an unprecedented phase of implementing true justice," Majali said, stressing that the government is dealing with this file out of "mercy and consideration for humanitarian conditions."
The government will embark on a method of dealing with citizens on the basis of justice, law, and equality, "and we will not accept anything less than that," Majali added.
The Minister noted that the government will only exclude prisoners who have been convicted of committing crimes, otherwise, "no political prisoners or anyone else will remain in prison because of his or her opinion or thought," Majali stressed.
The Jordanian authorities last week released 15 members of the so-called Salafi Jihadist current who were being tried by the State Security Court (SSC) over the violent clashes that erupted during a protest in Zarqa last April.
