Parliament Excludes Voluntary Manslaughter from Pardon

10-09-2011 12:00 AM

Ammon News - By Wael Jaraysheh

AMMONNEWS - The Jordanian Parliament on Thursday approved the 2011 temporary General Pardon law in the version that was referred to it by the government, and rejected including voluntary manslaughter cases - in which personal right was dropped - in the pardon.

In a joint session on Thursday that included both the Senate and the Lower House of Parliament, the Senate had agreed with the government to exclude voluntary manslaughter cases in which personal right was dropped, after the Lower House of Parliament had insisted on its position to include the cases in the General Pardon.

71 out of 104 lawmakers present at the session voted in favor of rejecting the Lower House's decision to include the cases in the general pardon.

The joint session voted in favor of maintaining the text as it was referred to the parliament by the government.
