07-09-2011 12:00 AM

Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Prime Minister Marouf Bakhit on Tuesday said the government will press ahead with the public sector restructuring scheme.

The project, he said, aims to remove distortions from the Jordanian administrative sector, improve performance of public sector and enhance equality among government personnel.

The premier was speaking as he chaired a meeting of the Higher Steering Committee for the Restructuring of Public Sector Project. The meeting reviewed some amendments to the civil service system project in order to go in line with the restructuring scheme.

Bakhit said it was important to adopt a flexible mechanism to deal with the minority of employees whose salaries would be slashed because of the project. He issued directives that the cut take place over five years. The scheme, he affirmed, does not aim to cut high salaries, but to achieve equality and remove distortion in public sector.

Minister of Public Sector Development Mohammed Odeinat presented a briefing on the project progress. He said most project has been completed, adding that it would be implemented as of the first day of 2012.
