AMMONNEWS - Thousands of Jordanians resumed protesting following Friday prayers in downtown Amman calling for swift political reforms and demanding the dissolution of the Lower House of Parliament.

Activists from political parties, professional associations, and civil society organizations chanted slogans, expressing "the people want to reform the regime."

Their demands this Friday widened to target the Lower House of Parliament, which gave a narrow vote of confidence to Prime Minister Marouf Bakhit's government on Thursday.

Protestors, estimated at 10,000, crowded in front of Al Husseini Mosque in downtown Amman since the morning amidst heavy security presence.

Several political currents, including the Islamists, leftists, and the Popular Unity party, had a tangible presence in the demonstration.

Protestors called for the dissolution of parliament and political reform represented by an elected government, chanting "we want change in policies, not change in personalities."

Protestors carried banners expressing solidarity with the Libyan people, while others raised pictures of the child Thamer Al Ajarmah who was killed last week in Naour region following shockwaves felt all the way in Amman as a result of Israeli detonation of large sums of TNT near Wadi Araba, and several protestors raised banners calling for annulling the Wadi Araba peace treaty with Israel.

Government and security measures did not prevent a number of "thugs" from attacking protestors again this week.

A group of men attacked a number of protestors from underneath the oversized Jordanian flag and hurled insults and defamatory slogans against the protestors.

Security sources intervened to break out the clashes, but did not arrest any of the attackers.

A political activist who did not want to disclose his name for fear of being attacked said following the clashes that "the security forces' unwillingness to arrest the thugs reveals that they are part of the problem, which also emboldens the thugs to return again this Friday."

He added that such acts harms the image of Jordan and its regime.
