Authorities warn of fraudulent text messages

17-09-2011 12:00 AM

Ammon News -
AMMONNEWS - A telecommunication regulatory body on Wednesday cautioned Jordanians against fraudulent text messages that include invitations to "claim" huge and unreal prizes by calling international numbers.

The Jordan Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (TRC) said in a statement that it had received complaints from many people, saying they receive frequent short text messages SMS on their phones from international destinations to claim big prizes" they have won".

The (TRC) urged citizens not to fall victims to telephone scams by not replying to such kind of SMS and missed calls. It added that replying to spam SMS could incur high costs due to calling expensive international destinations and premium rate numbers.

The commission is working with communications services providers and mobile operators in the Kingdom to slash this phenomenon, the statement said.
