Ammon News - Ministry of Labor spokesperson Mohammad Al-Zyoud confirmed that registering a non-Jordanian worker with social security does not exempt them from obtaining a work permit and cannot serve as a substitute under any circumstances.
Al-Zyoud explained that social security registration is a legal obligation aimed at providing insurance protection for workers, while a work permit is the official document issued by the Labor Ministry that allows non-Jordanians to work legally in the Kingdom, in accordance with the Labor Law and its regulations and instructions.
Anyone entering the labor market without a Jordanian national ID number must obtain a valid work permit, with the exception of children of Jordanian mothers, he said.
Al-Zyoud stressed that having a social security number does not protect workers from legal accountability if caught working without a permit, adding that ministry inspection teams continue their field visits to ensure compliance by workers and employers and take legal action against violators, whether workers or employers.
He urged non-Jordanian workers and employers to regularize their status and obtain or renew work permits to protect their rights and avoid legal action and deportation.
Al-Zyoud affirmed that the ministry will continue its efforts to regulate and protect the labor market, safeguard the rights of all parties involved in production and enhance employment opportunities for Jordanians.
