Amman Governor Yasser Adwan confirmed that rainfall recorded in the capital on Tuesday was within normal levels for the beginning of the rainy season, noting that the weather depression is expected to continue on Wednesday, according to the Jordan Meteorological Department.
Speaking to Public Security Radio (Amen FM), Adwan said rainfall covered all areas of the capital governorate within a very short period, causing temporary water accumulation in some areas and intersections.
Adwan noted that the Greater Amman Municipality, municipalities, and Ministry of Public Works and Housing, in cooperation with the Public Security Directorate, worked to address the reported issues within a very short period.
He added that the governorate annually monitors several locations prone to rainwater accumulation, noting that some require technical solutions and costly projects, particularly those involving the replacement of rainwater drainage culverts.
Adwan pointed out that some intersections experience temporary water accumulation during heavy rainfall, but such accumulations usually last between five and ten minutes before the water drains away.
Regarding rainwater drains, he said Amman has approximately 50,000 drains, noting that the Greater Amman Municipality began cleaning them again on Tuesday despite having previously completed cleaning operations, as fallen leaves and soil had blocked several drains.
He confirmed that municipal teams would conduct further field inspections on Wednesday to check and clean rainwater drains, urging citizens experiencing any problems to contact the Greater Amman Municipality or the relevant district director.
