Ammon News - Minister of Government Communication and Official Government Spokesperson Mohammad Momani said on Monday that what happened marks a pivotal historic moment in efforts to eradicate extremism and takfiri ideology in Jordan, stressing that the campaign to root out takfiri ideology and extremism across all sectors will continue.
Speaking at a press conference, Momani added that His Majesty King Abdullah II’s directives during a meeting of the National Security Council to review policies for combating extremist ideology and drying up its sources as part of a systematic plan underscore that confronting extremism is a comprehensive and ongoing national responsibility.
He noted that this responsibility is shared by government, religious, educational, media and community institutions.
Momani explained that protecting society is not limited to confronting violence, but begins with challenging the ideas that justify it and the rhetoric that legitimizes or provides cover for it.
He stressed that combating misinformation and rumors is an essential part of protecting society during crises, warning that misleading information can spread fear, undermine trust and create opportunities for incitement. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to providing accurate and reliable information.
Momani also cautioned against engaging in discussions that fuel hate speech or deepen division among Jordanians, stressing that a crime committed by individuals who embrace extremist takfiri ideology must not become an occasion for exchanging accusations or generalizing blame against any component of society.
"We must not allow terrorism to achieve through words what it failed to achieve through crime", Momani stressed.
