Preparations underway to transfer Karak victims’ bodies from hospital to cemetery

25-10-2026 08:38 AM

Ammon News - Preparations began on Sunday morning to transfer the bodies of those killed in the terrorist attack on a church in the village of Humud in Karak Governorate from Karak Government Hospital to Humud Cemetery near the church.

The remaining victims of the terrorist attack who are receiving treatment at Karak Hospital are in stable condition.

Three injured people were discharged from Karak Hospital on Saturday after their conditions stabilized, with more patients expected to be discharged.

The death toll from the terrorist attack rose to nine on Saturday after one of the injured victims succumbed to his wounds while receiving treatment.

Most of the injuries sustained in Friday’s terrorist attack on a church in the village of Hamoud in Karak Governorate were direct, targeting major veins and arteries in the body. This made it difficult to provide emergency treatment, particularly in cases involving internal bleeding.

On Saturday, His Majesty King Abdullah II directed the relevant authorities to respond with “an iron fist” against the khawarej, the outlaws of Islam, and anyone attempting to undermine the unity of the Jordanian people, emphasising the need to pursue and hold accountable anyone supporting or justifying this act under the full force of the law.

The King urged keeping the public updated on the progress of the investigation, and stressed the need to firmly counter rumours and misinformation that might exploit this crime to incite fear and discord.

His Majesty also underscored the importance of conducting a comprehensive security assessment of the response to the terrorist attack, and directed the development of practical measures to boost security readiness and preempt future threats, while emphasising the need to uphold the rule of law and state authority.

The King directed the government and relevant institutions to review policies for countering extremist ideology and to intensify efforts to eradicate its root causes through a systematic plan developed in coordination with religious authorities.
