Tourism Ministry warns against unlicensed travel offers

14-10-2026 09:32 AM

Ammon News - The Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities has urged citizens to verify that tourism and travel agencies are properly licensed and classified before booking or purchasing tourism packages and trips, in order to protect their rights and avoid fraud or falling victim to fake offers.

The ministry stressed the importance of dealing with duly licensed agencies and complying with the legislation governing tourism professions and activities, noting that practicing tourism-related professions and activities, including offering services through websites, applications and digital platforms, requires obtaining the necessary approvals in accordance with the Tourism Law and the regulations and instructions issued under it.

In this regard, Article 9 of the Tourism Law stipulates that the tourism professions and activities specified in the law may be practiced only after obtaining the required approval.

Article 21 sets out the penalties for violations, which may include imprisonment for a period of no less than six months and no more than one year, a fine ranging from JD 3,000 to JD 10,000, or both penalties, depending on the circumstances specified in the article.

The ministry called on citizens to verify agencies’ licensing and classification before completing bookings or transferring any money. Citizens can contact the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities at 06 460 3360 to confirm the relevant details.

The ministry emphasized the importance of awareness and prior verification to ensure safe tourism experiences and protect consumers’ rights.
