Ammon News - Jordan's skies will witness the peak of the Southern Taurid meteor shower on Wednesday night into Thursday, while the Northern Taurids are expected to peak on November 11–12, according to ArabiaWeather.

ArabiaWeather explained that the Taurids are known for producing extremely bright fireballs, which appear brighter than ordinary meteors, despite their relatively low activity compared to other meteor showers, with each stream producing around five meteors per hour under ideal viewing conditions.

It noted that the meteor showers are associated with debris left behind by Comet Encke. As Earth passes through the debris trail each year, some particles enter the atmosphere and burn up, appearing as bright streaks of light across the sky.

The meteors can be seen with the naked eye across Jordan without telescopes or specialized equipment, provided skies are clear and observers stay away from artificial lighting. Desert areas, including Wadi Rum and the Jordanian Badia, are among the suitable locations for viewing the phenomenon, ArabiaWeather indicated.

The website advised observers to watch a wide area of the sky during the late-night hours and allow their eyes 20 to 30 minutes to adjust to the darkness, noting that reduced moonlight during the peak period will improve viewing conditions.
