More than 100,000 vehicles inspected in two days under winter campaign

13-10-2026 09:41 AM

Ammon News - More than 100,000 vehicles were inspected over two days as part of a winter campaign launched by the Public Security Directorate (PSD) to ensure vehicles are technically fit for the approaching winter season, Traffic Department Operations Room Officer Maj. Kifah Al-Hazaimeh said Tuesday.

Al-Hazaimeh said the campaign has witnessed public awareness and commitment, with citizens checking their vehicles and ensuring they are ready for winter. He urged drivers to visit specialized centers at traffic departments to undergo the necessary inspections ahead of the season.

He explained that the campaign covers inspections of vehicles’ technical equipment and overall roadworthiness. Vehicles found to have faults or technical issues are given a one-week notice to address the problems, after which their owners must return to a traffic department to verify that the defects have been fixed.

Al-Hazaimeh noted that short message service (SMS) notifications are now being used to inform vehicle owners of inspection results, indicating whether their vehicles have passed or failed, replacing the previous use of stickers.

He stressed that the campaign is not intended to issue traffic fines, but rather to prevent road accidents and enhance public safety by ensuring vehicles are technically prepared for winter conditions.

He added that mobile traffic patrols, including female police patrols, continue to conduct roadside inspections across the Kingdom, including along Airport Road, to verify that vehicles meet technical safety requirements.

Regarding traffic conditions, Al-Hazaimeh said the entrances to Amman experienced increased traffic volumes during the morning hours, particularly around the Sweileh Tunnel, the University of Jordan corridor, and Airport Road. Traffic officers remain deployed to regulate traffic and address congestion.

He explained that two broken-down vehicles at the exit of Sweileh Tunnel toward Khalda were removed from the road, while traffic personnel continued working to mitigate the resulting congestion.

He also noted that several traffic accidents involving property damage only were handled during the early morning hours. He stressed the importance of complying with traffic laws and avoiding dangerous violations to protect the safety of all road users.
