Ammon News - Jordan’s Parliamentary Energy and Mineral Resources Committee has urged citizens to follow public safety guidelines when using heating appliances and to ensure that they are safe and properly maintained before the start of winter, in order to protect lives and property and reduce accidents caused by unsafe use.
Committee Chairman Ayman Abu Haniyeh said the safety of citizens and their families remains a national priority that cannot be compromised. He stressed that safe heating is a shared responsibility requiring greater awareness and preventive measures, including keeping ventilation openings clear and placing heaters away from blankets, curtains and other flammable furniture and materials.
He emphasized the importance of not using heating appliances designed for outdoor use inside homes or enclosed spaces, warning that doing so could lead to suffocation, carbon monoxide poisoning and fires. He also cautioned against leaving heaters running while sleeping or when leaving the house, as well as tampering with electrical connections or overloading electrical circuits.
Abu Haniyeh affirmed that the Parliamentary Energy and Mineral Resources Committee will continue exercising its oversight role over the relevant authorities to ensure they fulfill their responsibilities in monitoring, raising awareness and enforcing public safety standards. The committee will also follow up on any shortcomings in accordance with applicable legislation, helping safeguard citizens.
Abu Haniyeh praised Prime Minister Jafar Hassan’s directives to continue replacing unsafe heating appliances with safer alternatives, describing the initiative as an important step toward strengthening social protection and providing a safe home environment for families in need, particularly as winter approaches.
Abu Haniyeh reiterated that protecting citizens’ lives is a shared national responsibility, stressing that the committee will continue to follow up on this issue within its oversight mandate to promote a culture of safety and prevention and reduce accidents associated with heating appliances.
