Ammon News - The Greater Amman Municipality (GAM) declared a low-level state of emergency from Monday evening, October 5, rising to a medium level on Tuesday morning, October 6, ahead of expected rain.
GAM confirmed its field teams were ready to respond to reports received by the Tlaa Al-Ali emergency operations room, urging residents to report any concerns through its unified call center on 102 or 117180.
Residents were urged to exercise caution and stay away from valleys and low-lying areas.
The municipality warned against connecting rooftop drains to sewer manholes, which can cause sewage to overflow onto roads. It also urged residents not to litter, as waste can block stormwater drainage lines.
GAM stressed the need to check submersible pumps in basements and shops below street level, calling on traders to take precautions when storing goods in warehouses and basements.
Contractors and construction project owners were also urged to secure building materials to prevent them from being washed away and blocking stormwater drainage lines.
