Ammon News - The Kremlin on Monday said the crushing victory of President Vladimir Putin’s United Russia party in parliamentary elections - that were tightly-controlled and without parties who oppose the Ukraine war - showed that Russians were behind the longtime leader.
“These indicators, of course, point to the highest level of consolidation within Russian society around the head of state,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told a briefing with journalists. Putin has ruled Russia for 26 years
Putin's party won a record number of 355 seats in Russia’s 450-seat Duma, the lower house of parliament, according to preliminary results released by electoral chief Ella Pamfilova on Monday.
With almost all votes counted after the three-day election with no parties critical of Putin participating, results showed the presidential party will have a supermajority larger than its previous 2016 record.
