Pakistan interior minister to visit Tehran amid renewed US-Iran tensions

21-09-2026 02:21 PM

Ammon News - As tensions and mutual threats between Washington and Tehran intensify again, diplomatic efforts are continuing to push for de-escalation, with Pakistan’s Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi visiting the Iranian capital on Monday, according to Iran’s state broadcaster IRIB.

The visit comes as Iran renewed its warnings earlier in the day over the possibility of another US attack on its territory.

‘Changing the geography of the war’
Iran’s IRGC spokesman Hossein Mohbi warned that any new attack would prompt Tehran to change the geography of the war and the type of weapons it uses.

Iranian forces also warned on Sunday of what they described as a US plan to resume the war and launch strikes on Iranian territory.

Iran’s Unified Combat Command said in a statement that Tehran had received information indicating that the US was preparing to resume military operations.

It added that any US attack would be followed by sustained strikes against American bases and interests.

Key mediator
Pakistan has emerged in recent months as one of the main mediators between Washington and Tehran amid escalating tensions between the two sides.

Naqvi has made a series of visits to Tehran since May, most recently in August, meeting Iranian officials and discussing efforts to contain tensions and advance diplomatic solutions.

News reports indicate that Naqvi has visited Iran at least four times since the war began on February 28.

An initial agreement signed between Washington and Tehran in June later collapsed following disagreements over several issues, most notably the Strait of Hormuz and its management.

US forces subsequently resumed strikes on some Iranian sites and oil vessels.

The United States has also continued its naval blockade of Iranian ports while imposing additional sanctions.
