Jordan condemns settler incursions into Al-Aqsa Mosque

13-09-2026 01:59 PM

Ammon News - The Ministry of Foreign and Expatriate Affairs on Sunday condemned the continued incursions by extremist settlers into Al-Aqsa Mosque/Al-Haram Al-Sharif, including the latest incursion carried out under the protection of Israeli occupation police.

The ministry said the incursions, restrictions imposed on worshippers entering the compound, and provocative practices inside Al-Haram Al-Sharif constitute a flagrant violation of the historical and legal status quo, a desecration of the site’s sanctity, and an unacceptable provocation.

Ministry spokesperson Fuad Majali reaffirmed Jordan’s absolute rejection and strong condemnation of the continued incursions by extremist settlers, as well as the Israeli occupation police’s facilitation of such actions and restrictions on worshippers’ access.

Majali said these practices represent a blatant violation of international law and international humanitarian law and an unacceptable attempt to impose new realities at Al-Aqsa Mosque/Al-Haram Al-Sharif and divide it temporally and spatially.

He stressed that Israel has no sovereignty over occupied Jerusalem or its Islamic and Christian holy sites.

Majali warned of the consequences of continued violations and provocative practices, particularly amid calls by extremist groups to intensify incursions.

He urged the international community to adopt a firm position requiring Israel, as the occupying power, to halt its violations and unlawful practices against Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem and to end all measures restricting worshippers’ access to Al-Aqsa Mosque/Al-Haram Al-Sharif.

Majali also reiterated that the entirety of Al-Aqsa Mosque, covering 144 dunums, is a place of worship exclusively for Muslims, and that the Jerusalem Awqaf and Al-Aqsa Mosque Affairs Department, affiliated with Jordan’s Ministry of Awqaf, Islamic Affairs and Holy Places, is the legal authority with exclusive jurisdiction over the administration of all affairs of Al-Aqsa Mosque/Al-Haram Al-Sharif and the regulation of entry to the compound.
