Ammon News - Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates said it is following up, in coordination with Malaysian authorities, on the situation of a number of Jordanians, including children, who were exploited for begging by a group currently under investigation by Malaysian authorities on human trafficking charges.
Ministry spokesperson Ambassador Fouad Al-Majali said the ministry, through its Operations and Consular Affairs Directorate and the Jordanian Embassy in Kuala Lumpur, is monitoring the conditions of those who were exploited to ensure their safety and provide them with the necessary assistance. It is also coordinating with Malaysian authorities to facilitate their return to Jordan.
Al-Majali added that coordination is also underway with Malaysian authorities and the relevant Jordanian agencies regarding the accused, some of whom are relatives of those who were exploited.
He noted that upon their return to Jordan, the competent Jordanian authorities will refer the adult suspects to the relevant judicial authorities to take the necessary legal measures in accordance with national laws, including the Anti-Human Trafficking Law, which classifies the crime as a transnational offense.
