19-08-2026 02:50 PM

Ammon News - Environment Minister Ayman Suleiman said Wednesday that Jordan has made progress in implementing its commitments under the Montreal Protocol and the Kigali Amendment, stressing the need to strengthen national capacities, improve monitoring and compliance systems, and accelerate the transition to environmentally and climate-friendly alternatives and technologies.

Suleiman made the remarks while opening a meeting of the National Ozone Committee, attended by committee chair and Ministry Secretary-General Omar Arabiyat, committee members, and representatives of national and international bodies involved in implementing the Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer and the Kigali Amendment.

He highlighted the committee’s role in coordinating national efforts among relevant stakeholders to support Jordan’s continued compliance with its international commitments on protecting the ozone layer and phasing down ozone-depleting substances and hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs).

Suleiman noted that international cooperation on ozone protection has produced significant environmental results, adding that Jordan will continue working with international institutions to support environmental and climate objectives and sustainable development.

The meeting reviewed the National Ozone Committee’s mandate, objectives, and priorities, as well as key programs and projects implemented by national and international institutions under the Montreal Protocol and the Kigali Amendment.

Participants discussed ways to strengthen coordination among relevant entities, support implementation of national commitments to reduce ozone-depleting substances and HFCs, and promote alternatives and technologies with lower climate impacts.

The meeting concluded with a discussion on opportunities to develop national efforts and improve coordination among institutions and international partners to support Jordan’s implementation of its commitments under the Montreal Protocol and the Kigali Amendment.
