Technical malfunction delays Royal Jordanian flight nearly seven hours

16-08-2026 03:29 PM

Ammon News - A technical malfunction delayed a Royal Jordanian (RJ) airlines flight by nearly seven hours, leaving passengers facing an extended wait before the aircraft resumed its journey from Istanbul to Amman.

Flight RJ164, which was scheduled to fly from Istanbul to Amman, was delayed by 6 hours and 40 minutes after the malfunction was discovered while the aircraft was on the ground at Queen Alia International Airport before its scheduled departure to Istanbul to pick up passengers.

In a statement Sunday, the airline said its technical and operational teams carried out the necessary inspections and repairs, with the work requiring successive extensions of the departure time.

Passengers at the Istanbul station were kept informed of the delay and provided with assistance, meals and refreshments during the wait, the airline said.

Royal Jordanian issued an apology for the inconvenience, describing the disruption as an issue beyond its control. The airline emphasized that prioritizing safety checks over strict schedule adherence reflects its commitment to operational reliability, noting that precautionary delays remain a core component of its safety protocol.
