Two Palestinians shot, eight beaten in attack by colonists in Hebron

16-08-2026 01:47 PM

Ammon News - Two Palestinians were injured by live ammunition and eight others were injured after being beaten early Sunday during an attack by Israeli colonists, protected by Israeli occupation forces, in the al-Ras area of Hebron city.

The Palestinian Red Crescent said its crews treated 10 injured Palestinians, including two who sustained gunshot wounds, in the aftermath of the attack.

One of the shooting victims, a 60-year-old man, was shot in the back and hand. A second man, aged 46, was also shot before being detained by Israeli occupation forces.

The Red Crescent said eight other Palestinians were injured after being beaten during the attack by colonists and Israeli forces on the al-Jaabari neighborhood in the al-Ras area. Among those injured was a 66-year-old woman.

The attack comes amid a broader escalation in colonist violence across the occupied West Bank. According to the Colonization and Wall Resistance Commission, Israeli forces and colonists carried out 2,256 attacks against Palestinians, their land and property in July, including 1,458 by Israeli forces and 798 by colonists. Hebron recorded 170 attacks during the month.

The United Nations has also warned that colonist violence in the West Bank has reached an unprecedented level, amid continuing settlement expansion and increasing attacks against Palestinian communities.

Hebron has been among the areas affected by colonist attacks. A recent UN assessment noted that settler-related violence has particularly affected communities near established and newly established outposts, with attacks including assaults, raids, property damage and restrictions on access to agricultural land.
